C’est en 1868, que Florentine Ariosto Jones arrive de Boston, USA à Schaffhausen en Suisse pour y lancer sa première collection de montres. Depuis, tous les ans, lors du salon international de la haute horlogerie IWC organise un gala. L’année 2008 n’a pas échappé à la tradition mais la soirée a été bien plus spectaculaire pour fêter le 140ème anniversaire de la marque.
« The Crossing » a eu lieu à Genève le 8 avril dernier. Acteurs oscarisés, sportifs, auteurs et autres célébrités y avaient été conviés. Le programme promettait un moment inoubliable. La diffusion du film « Minutes of Separation », spécialement réalisé pour l’occasion, a débuté la soirée. Les célèbres acteurs Cate Blanchett et Joseph Fiennes faisaient partis du casting. Le concert privé de la chanteuse canadienne Alanis Morissette a continué de ravir les invités.
Pourtant, la vraie star de cette soirée était la montre Jubilee Edition Vintage Collection, spécialement imaginée pour l’occasion en hommage au fondateur.
140 years ago
By now, it is something of a tradition for Swiss watch manufacturers IWC Schaffhausen to stage a spectacular gala evening as part of Geneva’s watch fair, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. This year’s event will be known simply as “The Crossing”. Just over140 years ago, F.A.Jones from Boston, Massachusetts, set out on a journey that took him to Schaff- hausen, where he set up the International Watch Company. The gala will mark the offi- cial launch of the IWC Vintage Collection – Jubilee Edition1868–2008. This latest col- lection is an elegant and fascinating encap- sulation of140years of company history. As a highlight of the evening, around1,200 guests will be treated to a short multi-media perfor- mance, Minutes of a Separation, by Sydney Theatre Company. STC’s Co-Artistic Director Cate Blanchett will appear on film and live performers will include renowned Australian aerialists and acclaimed British actor, Joseph Fiennes.
